Today, I’m taking you to eat with me at Aléken Restaurant, an Haitian restaurant offering an authentic yet modern dining experience located at📍3003 Boulevard le Carrefour, Laval. I bought it, I ate it and now, let’s rate it.
The Order:
⁃ Rice and Beans
⁃ Fried Plantains
⁃ “Macaroni” Salad
⁃ Sauce
⁃ Pikliz
Total: 21.67$ (cad)
Let’s start by the welcoming vibe of this place. The staff was ok and nothing more.
Side note: I’m going to need for these businesses to be and do better in the customer service department because it’s not giving “I’m happy to be here and I’m thankful you’re choosing our business to spend your money and we are grateful”.
Let’s get into what I ordered. I don’t eat meat, therefore I ordered everything individually which costs me more than if I had bought a combo. The lady that was serving the food didn’t suggest me any alternative or better option.
The rice and beans were missing salt and flavour. I had better! The amount was ok but for the price I paid, should’ve been a bit more. I rate it a 6/10
The fried plantains were giving dry, no salt, no flavor. The least you could do is sprinkle some salt on the plantains right after they came out of the fryer. They weren’t even crispy. I rate them a 5/10
The “macaroni” salad was bland! All it had was mayo. Again no salt, no taste, no type of veggies for some colors like they usually do or seasonings. This one was just penne and mayo and it cost 5.50$. I took a bite and I was done. I rate this 3/10
The sauce and pikliz came in little tiny containers like COME ON! For what I’m paying, this is what you’re offering? Sauce tasted watery, I had better and the pikliz, THE PIKLIZ wasn’t even SPICY! Who serves non spicy pikliz? It’s was basically coleslaw with no flavor.
Did Aléken Restaurant lived up to the hype? No! Overall, because of the lack of flavors in general, the small portion of the sauce, the macaroni and pikliz, I rate Aléken Restaurant 2 out of 5 stars.
